Parkies Pals Update Report June 2023

Parkies Progress June 2023

Sorry we missed out on a meeting in May with all it’s Bank holiday Mondays! From September we will be meeting 1st TUESDAY of the month as we often loose out at least once a year.

Please forgive this piece of self-indulgence but for once I am actually quite proud of myself and so delighted that Parkies Pals have received such recognition. It’s truly an award for us all.

Cricklade Parkinson’s Club holds awards presentation!

Kerry Hartman received the Ted Wilson Award ‘for outstanding service to Parkinson’s UK Swindon Branch’ and a Certificate of Appreciation from PUK ‘for contributions to the local Parkinson’s community.  For setting up and running a local group (Parkies Pals), organising activities and fundraising.

On Wednesday 17th May 2023 I was the recipient of this fabulous award and certificate. I am still overwhelmed with the presentation and the fact that so many considered my efforts worthy of ‘outstanding’ accolades. I am delighted that the Parkies Pals ethos is recognised as a symbol of support and friendship to anyone living with Parkinsons or has any interest in this condition. Local groups are so important, providing a safe, relaxing space for people to share experiences, pick up information, enjoy a cuppa, cake, chat and laugh. No one has to be alone with Parkinsons.

Thank you Kerry

The Ted Wilson Award

Ted Wilson was the CEO of the NHS trust which managed healthcare in North Wiltshire. He knew of Parkinson’s from a family connection and supported Vincent and Maggie’s campaign for better services for those living with Parkinson’s. When 2 NHS trusts merged Ted was made redundant, but he made it his quest to make the necessary changes before he left to provide a vital service.  His actions and determination resulted in the provision of a Parkinson’s nurse service dedicated to this area providing access for 100’s more people with Parkinsons’. A truly selfless man who wanted no reward but was delighted to give his name for this award presented annually to those who have made a real difference and provide outstanding services dedicated to help those living with Parkinsons.

Care and Share in Wantage – This event was on Friday 26th May and organised by Parkinsons.me, Swindon Home Instead and Parkies Pals.  These events help bring together services and information useful to anyone associated with Parkinson’s and is well supported by the fabulous Parkinson’s nurses team and physios so look out for more.

Love to Move’- These sessions have been popular and we hope to run again in the Autumn on a weekly rather than bi-weekly basis. Watch this space.
